I recently visited Lake Texoma and took my kayak. I took it out in the early morning to take advantage of mild conditions. The heron birds were nesting all around and would take off as I approached the shore. Its was a great time to disconnect and enjoy the scenery.

Snow on the Mountain Flowers 8x10 oil on canvas
When you see fields and fields of white flowers you pull over to snap a few photos. They bloom in late August and are a sign cooler weather is on the way. It is the same with milkweed and purple thistle flowers. I read this from my former biology teacher's post recently. I didn't know this and will pay closer attention next year.

It was a perfect morning for painting at Lake Texoma last weekend. The weather was picture perfect with low winds. I travelled with my family and there were several of us painting from the point. The others were close by fishing and catching! It was a spectacular morning.

A Day at the Farm

I painted in Fredericksburg recently and had to stop at the Wild Seed Farm. We bought seeds and wondered around the gardens. We were delighted when we found fields of zinna's, cosmos and sunflowers. The butterflies and humming birds were fluttering everywhere.

I returned to the same location and painted another sunrise during the plein air event with The Good Art Company in Fredericksburg. The morning clouds were a nice contract with the happy little sunflowers. I finished this up in the studio making adjustments and adding the house.

I created this in the studio yesterday after a painting trip to Fredericksburg. I painted a sunrise during the plein air event with The Good Art Company. The glow of the morning light on the dried grasses and wild sunflowers was striking on the cool dirt road. I was inspired at every turn.

I created this during the Good Art Company Plein Air event in Fredericksburg this week. We stayed at Barons Creekside. The cabins are each very unique and developed with recycled windows, doors and furnishings. The creek runs through the middle of the cabins and provided great views. . It was a joy to paint along the sounds of the flowing water and gentle breeze.

I am headed to Fredericksburg in the hill country of Texas.

The play of light on the lake is a never ending display of color. During the summer we take the boat out in the early hours or as the sun goes down. It is always a beautiful display.

This painting evolved from a couple of field studies from the master garden in Granbury. I stirred in a few twist and turns in the small creek leading the eye thru the scene. It was a fun exercise in letting go of the reality and going with a dreamy sunrise.

After witnessing this gorgeous sunrise, I couldn't wait to paint it.
The clouds seemed to swirl in a design pointed to the sun.
It makes me grateful for a day filled with promise. This was created using my palette knife and lots of creamy colors.
