Blue Retreat

This was painted in the studio. It was inspired from a trip to Hunter Park on Lake Granbury. It started out with a lot of red flowers in it. I decided I wanted to cooI it down a bit. When I added patches of blue and greens, it felt calming. It reminds me to appreciate a simple field of wildflowers and the mood it can set.

Pretty in Pink

The inspiration started from a trip to the Master Garden site in Granbury. It morphed into a totally different scene by the time I finished. I brought in the old house and barn located from some back road in Texas. I love pushing the shapes and colors of the flower.

Fall is Coming

I had the opportunity to join friends plein air painting at Benbrook Lake this week. When we arrived it the skies were gray and the air was heavy. As soon as we set up and got to work it seem to clear over us. The landscape came alive with the sun peeking thru. Cooler temperatures and the warm palette of the landscape gave me hope fall is coming.

Light Tones

I created this at Benbrook Lake on Wednesday. I met up with friends on the coolest morning we’ve had in a while. The promise was 68 degrees, but in reality it was in the low seventies. It was still a splendid time to be outside painting. Some may see this scene as unappealing, but I found the morning light was casting a warm glow on the landscape.

Hot Summer Sunflowers

My sunflowers are the only thing blooming around here and make the perfect models. Oven like temperatures make painting in the studio a great option. Setting up a still life with light streaming in made this stain glass vase glow. My sunflowers sure brighten the day.

Pixel Pitchers with Sunflowers

Gary’s Sunflower Garden

I spotted this row of sunflowers out of the corner of my eye driving thru downtown Granbury. I knew I needed to return as soon as I could before they faded. Gary, the homeowner planted giant saucer size sunflowers covering two sides of his yard. I started early before the heat and got to work quickly. I never met Gary, but did meet his friendly neighbors who came to check it out. It was such a fun morning.

Sally’s Hollyhocks

I created this during the paint out in Waxahachie last week. We were on the search for colorful front yards. My friend and painting buddy, Niki Gulley spotted this garden. The more we drove around looking for inspiration the more we found. Sally, the homeowner came out to check our work out and was thrilled we were there painting. I love this town!
This painting is display at the Ellis County Art Association during the 16th Annual Paint Historic Waxahachie. The show will hang until the end of July. Art on the Square

Super Bloom
