Traveling to Colorado is one of my favorite places to visit and paint. This was inspired from a small plein air piece I painted while there. The aspen trees were surrounded by fall colors and cooler temperatures. As we experience the blazing heat of summer, its nice to dream of fall weather and cooler temperatures.

Aspen Grove

There is nothing like painting a Colorado landscape in an Aspen grove.

This was styled after a plein air piece I painted on a trip a few years ago.

This painting is part of our members show with Lake Granbury Art Association. The opening reception is Saturday, March 26th at 4:00 pm. 224 N. Travis, Granbury, Texas.

I saw a preview of this show and really was blown away by the the quality and diversity of the art.

Winter's Gold

This painting was based on a scene from the Mineral Wells State Park. We went for a hike and this is one of the lovely scenes along the way. I loved the contrast of the water in the creek and the warm winter grasses .

Terry's Paluxy River

We gathered to paint the river on a gorgeous winter morning.

The Paluxy river runs thru this area and my friend Terry has property with it flowing through. We painted in the morning and toured the property the rest of the afternoon. This is from a newly developed walking path that leads to the family's swimming hole. I know I want to return and paint here soon!

Flaming Sumac by Sheri Jones

The sumac shrub thrives in the dry Texas landscape and provides pops of color. This painting was inspired from a hill top in Glen Rose. The flaming colors of the sumac was calling out to paint me. So happy I did!

Sweeping Mountain Views by Sheri Jones

Getting lost on the back roads of Pagosa Springs we saw sweeping views of the mountains and warm fall colors. We stopped many times to photograph the beautiful landscape. It was a fun exercise to use those photos once I returned home. Using the palette knife, I built layers of shapes and colors.
