I'm participating in a group show in Granbury. The show kicks off on Saturday, February 5th with a reception from 2-5. Come on down and check it out. The Shanley house is a short walk from the historic square.
Pansies Color Spots
7x5 Acrylic on Canvas
I find myself in the depths of winter yearning for more color in my garden. Most of my plants are sleeping or frozen and gone. I do have a few pansies blooming and wanted to paint them.
I love painting these small studies using the acrylic paints. This is available for purchase

New Day's Light
5x7 Acrylic on canvas
This is a small painting I created exploring the effects using acrylic paints.
I'm using a heavy body paint and I've found I can get some of the texture I like. A beautiful sunrise on the lake is a little bit of heaven on earth. A great place to be.

Tree Tops
5x7 Acrylic on canvas
As the new year rolled in, I knew I wanted to try something different. I bought a new set of acrylic paints and have been experimenting with them on small surfaces. I like to paint small studies before working large.

I created this after doing a series of small studies exploring new color combinations. I love the warm tones against the cooler colors of the sky and creek water. This is filled with texture. It is based on a small creek in the town of Glen Rose, Texas.
Grassy Reflection
9x12 oil on canvas
I created this after painting "Autumn's Color Spot". I wanted to zoom in and explore this little cove of this waterfront view. The sun was going down creating a warm glow to the grasses. It was fun to use the same source, but with a different view.

Autumn’s Color Spot
12x16 oil on canvas
We took a boat ride on a warm afternoon in November. It was a rare day when it was warm with low winds. The lake was clear of other boat traffic. The sun was low and sinking towards the horizon. It was lighting up the landscape. The calm waters made a wonderful reflection that I attempted to recreate.

Spring Garden
5x7 oil on canvas
On the coldest day of the NewYear I created this, dreaming of my Spring Garden. The hope and planning of a garden always starts in the dead of winter. Everything is sleeping and waiting for the renewal of growth. May you find comfort in this season and new year.

Calm Morning
7x14 oil on canvas
I painted this after I took a long kayak ride. It was a peaceful morning with no boat traffic and no wind. By the time I crossed the lake and got to this spot, a storm blew in. It was a challenging ride home, but I made it before the rains and strong winds.

Winter's Gold
16x20 oil on gallery wrapped canvas
This painting was based on a scene from the Mineral Wells State Park. We went for a hike and this is one of the lovely scenes along the way. I loved the contrast of the water in the creek and the warm winter grasses .

Grateful Days
16x12 oil on canvas
I'm feeling grateful for the simple things, like our lake views and beautiful fall colors. This sunrise was viewed on one of our early morning fishing trips. This is one of my husbands favorite spots.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Hot Summer Night
8x10 oil on linen
Have you ever spent a summer day dreaming of a way to cool off? We did and spent the evening cruising the lake hoping for a cool breeze. The bonus was this spectacular sunset. Did I push the colors a bit? Maybe, but if you look long and hard enough the color is there!

It's in the Shadows
14x11 oil on linen
I'm pleased to say this is my third painting that has been selected to show at Dutch Art Gallery during their fall show "All You Need is Love" .
The show opens Saturday, December 4th. Stayed tuned for reception information.
I love it when I am being creative, that's the basic fact about me. I love taking photos, just like I love taking long walks through my neighborhood in Granbury, I must remember that these things bring me joy.
I think, how can I make the most ordinary subject look interesting, think, how much more I can bring to a scene. In this painting the warm morning light made the corner of this house come to life. The shadows are a great contrast with interesting shapes. I fell in love with the light and shadows and knew I had to paint this scene.
"All you need is Love" is about finding a passion and expressing it through the painting process.

For the Love of Fishing

Since the beginning of the year, I set a goal to paint the children in my family.
This is my great niece, Kylie. Her grandfather loves to be outside fishing or hunting. He is passing on the love to his grandchildren. As soon as he posted this photo of her with her prize catch, I knew I wanted to paint it. It just seemed to fit in with the theme of the show "All You Need is Love." I loved everything about this, from her t-shirt to the fish and lovely lake behind her. Painting it was pure joy.

Festive Garden Sunrise 16x20
Festive Garden Sunrise 16x20 oil on canvas
A visit to the The Wildflower Seed Farm is what inspired this painting. I combined it with a warm sunrise and loved the result. This was created with a palette knife and lots of colorful texture.

Fall Festival of Flowers
7x14 oil on canvas
I painted this on my patio recently. When I started it, the plants were all in the shade. I focused on the shapes and colors. By the time I was an hour into it, the sun popped out and produced strong shadows and light. That is the best part of plein air painting. Things change moment by moment creating spontaneous opportunities.

This was a commission painting I created of the owner's view of Lake Granbury. It was a challenge to work so large, but also so fun. I worked from a photo taken from their front deck.
