Calming Water

This painting was inspired by a field study and photos.  I wanted to recreate the calming time spent painting here.  I used a palette knife adding texture and depth focusing on the blues of the river.

This image is inspired from Cimmaron, Colorado. We stayed in a wonderful house with great views in every direction.  The sunsets were the entertaining for the evening. I created this with with fond memories of time spent there.  We plan to return to the area for the month of June. I can't wait!

I recorded a time lapse video of the start of this painting and posted it on IG. You can follow me there at SheriJonesArt.  I finished it up behind the scenes in the studio. It is a bit of a challenge to record the process, mistakes and all.  It is interesting to see the process, so check it out.

Tree's Vibrant Hues

Trees Vibrant Hues 16x12

This tree was an explosion of color.  The warm leaves against the cool sky seem to vibrate.  I started with an undercoat of black. I sketched in the tree branches and building.  I approached it by painting in blocks of color, carving out the details. Another fun time with color.

My first painting of the year!

Happy New Year

I wanted to create a cloudscape that highlighted the moving clouds and wonderful light.  Clouds continue to inspire and challenge me. I like the soft dreamy colors in this one.

Autumn Color Combo 11x14

Autumn Color Combo 11x14 oil on canvas

I wanted to find fall color when I went out to paint with my friend Jill. We found a great spot on a high bluff overlooking the small town of Glen Rose.  It wasn't long before city workers drove up a dirt hill to run me off! lol. I packed up quickly and moved along. That's when I discovered this colorful scene.

I created this after visiting the Trinity Park in Ft. Worth. This is from the duck pond and was the location of a car show we attended.  It was a great day to be outside.  The park was packed with beautiful cars and colorful trees. Inspiration at every turn.

Autumn Hay 8x10

Autumn Hay 8x10 oil on canvas panel

This was created at the park at Lake Granbury. The neighboring fields were filled with color and the shapely hay bales.  Painting on location at the lake with my husband near by fishing was heaven.

This was inspired from  a plein air outing with my friend, Joyce and my sister Patti.  We met at Chandor Gardens in Weatherford, Texas.  The gardens offer a quiet sanctuary and was a wonderful place to spend the day painting.
It sold to a friend of mine. She bought it for her mother, who is a master gardner, and has at worked at Chandor Gardens. What a great present!

Thank you Victoria!

I was drawn to this bridge when scoping out a place to paint. The bridge was glowing in the morning light. This is behind the garden center and was a great place to set up.
