I am still on a quest to paint the ultimate fall foliage picture.  Cooler temperatures and the change of color is always a joy to experience. This was inspired from a back road in the Pagosa Springs area.  I met fellow artist there during a paint out with the Outdoor Painters Society.

Fall Fever

Fall Fever by Sheri Jones

9x12 oil on canvas

With cooler temperatures here, I was inspired to paint the warm colors of fall.   I've used my photos and field studies from past painting trips to fuel this new series. I painted this with a palette knife creating lots of texture. This is from a country road in Pagosa Springs and was bursting with the warms colors I yearned for.

My garden continues to inspire new paintings.  It is still blooming brilliant flowers with color bursting out. Being in the quiet of the garden is a happy place.  I created a small study before attempting this larger version. It really helps with color and design.  Where flowers bloom so do hope and happiness.

Garden Light

12x9 oi on canvas panel

This was painted at Chandor Gardens a few years ago.  I brought it out and made a few adjustments recently.  Over time it becomes obvious where changes need to be made for improvement.  Working on this reminded me of the pleasure I get when visiting a blooming garden.

Sold

This delightful painting was inspired from the banks of the Brazos River. Spending time in nature, painting, gathering ideas and observing are part of the process. I came home filled with ideas and created this.

It recently sold to a new collector and she said it was a piece that spoke to her and she had to have it.  Her wonderful husband agreed it would make a great birthday present.  This is why I paint, to share, inspire and pass on the passion of a beautiful view. Thank you Laurie!

Nature's Glory

Nature's Glory

I seek the calming effects of the lake at sunrise. This is from a kayak ride that made for an early morning on the lake. The changing colors of the sky with the reflection on the lake was incredible. Immersing one in nature and noticing the beauty around you can do wonders for the soul.

Thistle Way

Thistle Way

This was created in the studio from a couple of painting sessions on the river. The walk back to the car provided little pops of color with the wild thistles gracing the landscape. I completely changed up the color scheme by premixing colors of my choice.  I sketch out big shapes and applied the paint using a palette knife.  I left some of the warm underpainting showing.

Waterfall Garden

Waterfall Garden

14x11 oil on canvas

I painted this at Chandor Gardens in Weatherford, Texas. This is a beautiful garden area now owned by the city. The original owner, Douglas Chandor created the gardens over 70 years ago. He was a renowned portrait artist, but his true love was the garden. The city is doing a beautiful job of maintaining and preserving this little bit of heaven.

.  It was a calming spot in the garden with the sound of the falls splashing.

Facing the Sun 16x20 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

I was fortunate to paint at a field of giant sunflowers recently. I have been painting them in my dreams every since. I was looking for patterns, shapes and movement in this landscape. Using a palette to introduce texture and color in the sky is what I imagined.

I continue to explore the brilliant sunflower fields.  It has given me a chance to push shapes and color. I wanted to portray this in a softer color palette.
