Summer Courtyard

Summer Courtyard

14x11 oil on canvas

This was created at the Chandor Gardens in Weatherford. I met up with 10 other artist that came out to enjoy the peaceful setting. We were all set up within a safe distance..  We all focused on different subjects and came away with some nice paintings.  It was a joy to be outside creating art with fellow artist.

The sunrise reminds us to begin a new day with a freshness and vigor. This was inspired from an early morning ride on my kayak.  The sun and clouds were filled with color and design.  I find joy in recreating such a beautiful moment.  This was created using a palette knife and layers of color.

Thistle Way

Thistle Way

20x16 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

This was created in the studio from a couple of painting sessions on the river. The walk back to the car provided little pops of color with the wild thistles gracing the landscape. I completely changed up the color scheme by premixing colors of my choice.  I sketch out big shapes and applied the paint using a palette knife.  I left some of the warm underpainting showing.

Waterfall Garden

Waterfall Garden

14x11 oil on canvas

I painted this at Chandor Gardens in Weatherford, Texas. This is a beautiful garden area now owned by the city. The original owner, Douglas Chandor created the gardens over 70 years ago. He was a renowned portrait artist, but his true love was the garden. The city is doing a beautiful job of maintaining and preserving this little bit of heaven.

.  It was a calming spot in the garden with the sound of the falls splashing.

Garden Sanctuary

Garden Sanctuary

8x10 oil on canvas

I painted this at Chandor Gardens in Weatherford, Texas. I met up with a group of die hard plein air painters.  The Texas heat can be oppressive, but it wasn't in the gardens.  I painted in the shade and there was a nice breeze to keep us cool.  I am so grateful to have so many beautiful places to escape to. This is filled with texture and color.

This was inspired from a sunset cruise on Lake Granbury. The evening started with a rainbow and the color was more dramatic as the sun went down. It was a beautiful show.

A sunset is one subject that grabs my attention. It gives me an opportunity to push color and texture.

The view is from my neighborhood and somewhere I have painted at often.

Sky Reflections

Sky Reflections

11x14 oil on wood panel

I am drawn to river views and love exploring the possibilities in paint.  We painted on an old bridge overlooking the river this week.  The water was low exposing little islands along the way.  The sky was filled with clouds that reflected on the water making a beautiful spot to paint.

Fresh Start

Fresh Start 9x12 oil on canvas

This is an older painting revisited.  It was a plein air study from a hilltop in my neighborhood.  I made adjustments with the color and value, giving it a fresh start.  I love how the color flows from the sky to the landscape.

Contemporary Impressionistic Floral and Landscape Palette Knife Oil Painting by Sheri Jones

Facing the Sun 16x20 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

I was fortunate to paint at a field of giant sunflowers recently. I have been painting them in my dreams every since. I was looking for patterns, shapes and movement in this landscape. Using a palette to introduce texture and color in the sky is what I imagined.

I continue to explore the brilliant sunflower fields.  It has given me a chance to push shapes and color. I wanted to portray this in a softer color palette.

Smile for Miles 11x14

Seeing fields of these happy sunflowers brings a smile to my face. A small group of artist joined me to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. The winds were strong with clouds moving quickly. The dust storm brought in a interesting light.  The sunflowers were still glowing for miles.
